A Tianjin University research team reported a new fully organic mixed-matrix
membrane for CO2 capture in Nature Energy on Oct. 7. In simulated flue gas tests
the membrane achieved an orders-of-magnitude increase in CO2 permeability,
surpassing literature records and reaching about 70% of the model-predicted
theoretical permeability for a pure COF membrane. The membrane maintained stable
performance in the presence of water, SOx and NOx and showed good long-term
stability. A preliminary techno-economic analysis under specified process and
cost assumptions estimate carbon capture cost at about $38/ton CO2.
