Oil gains and escalating Middle East tensions drove safe‑haven flows, pushing the dollar sharply higher on Wednesday. After increased attacks by Iran on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, the dollar index DXY rose as much as 0.5% alongside oil and is trading close to its year‑to‑date high. Nearly all G10 currencies fell versus the dollar, with the euro weakest. XTB head of research Katherine Brooks said: "The dollar is acting as a countercyclical asset, attracting safe‑haven flows as other asset classes are sold off."
