Pakistan expects to reach its previously announced EV penetration target sooner
than 2030, a senior government adviser said, after a spike in fuel costs since
the Middle East conflict cuts electric vehicle payback periods to about 1–1.5
years. Prime Minister’s industry and production adviser Haroon Akhtar reiterated
the government’s target for EVs to account for 30% of new-car sales by 2030 and
said rising petrol prices are accelerating consumer uptake.
