European Banking Authority (EBA) chief said regulators are carrying out an
additional review of banks' sovereign bond portfolios worth trillions of euros
after yields in some core euro-area countries jumped to multi‑year highs. He
said exposures appear to remain within manageable bounds and that higher net
interest income has largely offset mark‑to‑market losses to banks' equity
values. "So far, we have not seen banks suffer material damage from the current
situation, and we are confident regulators are taking necessary measures," he
added.
