The US Treasury has appointed Judy Shelton as an adviser to Treasury Secretary
Scott Bessent, CNBC reported. Shelton, who will provide advice on monetary
policy, was previously rejected by the Senate in 2019 for a Federal Reserve
Board seat. Her failed nomination drew bipartisan opposition over her views on
Federal Reserve independence, support for a return to the gold standard, and
public questioning of whether the US needs a central bank. She previously held
roles at free‑market research institutes and the Hoover Institution.
