JP Morgan analysts say SpaceX’s latest spectrum transaction may rekindle
concerns about stronger competition among the three major US wireless carriers
and increase the risk that incumbents will need to spend more in future spectrum
auctions. While SpaceX could emerge as a new market participant—potentially
growing into a fourth major US operator—JP Morgan judges its near-term
competitive threat to Verizon, T‑Mobile and AT&T is limited because building a
Competitive terrestrial mobile network requires substantial time, infrastructure
and capital.
