Poland's interior ministry said police have received intelligence suggestions
Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz may be
targeted in the near term. The alerts follow three recent campus stabbings that
killed one and injured more than a dozen. To prevent further attacks, police
have inspected about 50,000 schools, are handling more than 230 suspected
offense cases and have detained 76 people; some detainees allegedly carried
knives, fireworks or threatened attacks. The government has increased police
deployments at schools and instituted 24/7 internet monitoring. Tusk has ordered
police to conduct at least one patrol of each school daily.
