On Oct 12, foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a regular briefing that
Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te's Oct 10 Double Ten speech promoted the 'relying on
foreign forces for independence' fallacy and smeared the mainland. Mao
reiterated the one-China principle, said Taiwan is part of China's territory,
affirmed the PRC as the sole legitimate government representing all China,
restated opposition to Taiwan independence and support for reunification, and
said Lai's appeal to 'democracy' cannot conceal his separatist intent.
