European officials said the U.S. has threatened to suspend a multilateral
mechanism that supplies weapons to Ukraine to pressure Kyiv to halt deep strikes
on Russian energy infrastructure. Over the weekend U.S. officials called
European governments and pressed Ukrainian contacts to end attacks on Russian
refineries, the officials said. Washington reportedly warned it could stop
intelligence sharing and cut the Ukraine priority needs list mechanism, which is
funded by several NATO European members who buy U.S. weapons for Ukraine; the
U.S. does not finance the mechanism. The White House declined to comment.
