Data released Tuesday showed Japan wholesale prices rose 6.8% YoY in September,
underscoring persistent inflationary pressure as firms pass higher fuel and
chemical costs to consumers and reinforcing near‑term rate‑hike expectations for
the Bank of Japan. The corporate goods price index came in below the market's
7.6% forecast (August: 7.6%). Import prices in yen jumped 24.5% YoY in
September, signaling yen weakness continues to lift raw‑material import costs.
The figures will feed into the Bank of Japan's review of quarterly growth and
inflation forecasts at this month's policy meeting.
