Wang Yi, member of the CPC Political Bureau and director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, met in Beijing on Oct. 13 with UAE presidential envoy for China Haledun. Wang said the Middle East is undergoing profound change, conflicts are protracting and spillovers are weighing on regional security and development. He called for peace, dialogue and fairness rather than war, confrontation or domination. China said it will continue to advance President Xi’s peace and stability initiatives and to provide a constructive role toward a comprehensive ceasefire, political settlement and early resumption of negotiations to seek durable peace.

At the opening of the night session, domestic futures contracts showed mixed results. Low-sulfur fuel oil (LU) and SC crude oil rose by more than 4%, fuel oil rose by nearly 4%, polypropylene rose by nearly 2%, and benzene, plastics, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and propylene rose by more than 1%. On the downside, methanol fell by more than 3%, TSR20 rubber fell by more than 1%, and polyvinyl chloride (PVC), pulp, soda ash, and Shanghai gold fell by nearly 1%.
