The U.S. trade deficit widened sharply to $105.6 billion in August, the largest since March 2025. This significant increase was attributed to businesses importing goods ahead of the official implementation of tariffs. If data from January to March 2025 is excluded, the August trade deficit would be a record high. The surge in investment in artificial intelligence is closely related to this change. Currently, these two product categories alone account for about half of the overall U.S. goods trade deficit. In other words, U.S. demand related to artificial intelligence is driving overseas economic growth through trade channels.
