IMF chief economist Silvana Tenreyro said countries must adopt comprehensive supply‑side resilience strategies to manage disruptions from extreme weather and geopolitical shocks. She said effective plans should involve both public and private sectors, limit immediate damage and reduce future vulnerability. Tenreyro urged stronger buffers in key sectors and increased investment in critical technologies with few substitutes, notably energy. She warned full reshoring is not viable for most countries and recommended trade diversification, expanded strategic stockpiles in key industries and targeted technology investment to boost adaptive capacity to future supply‑chain shocks.
