China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has opened consultation
on a draft mandatory national standard, Safety Technical Requirements for Flying
Toys with Self‑Contained Power Systems. The draft’s stated aims are to prevent
some civil UAV manufacturers from evading regulation by labeling products as
flying toys, curb unauthorized alteration of performance parameters by users,
close standards gaps, raise safety requirements, and mitigate safety risks to
personal, property and national security.
