Bank of Korea Governor Shin said further won appreciation would be beneficial
and has boosted household purchasing power since the central bank moved to
tightening. He said the BoK will maintain a restrictive monetary stance until it
is confident inflation can return to target in a timely manner. Shin added a
stronger won shifts growth toward domestic demand and helps narrow the K-shaped
divergence; inflation, the exchange rate and financial-stability risks currently
point to the same policy direction, easing the bank’s policy trade-offs.
