The storage sector opened sharply lower, with Western Digital (WDC.O) and Seagate Technology (STX.O) falling over 7%, SK Hynix (SKHY.O) and Micron Technology (MU.O) down over 5%, and SanDisk (SNDK.O) down 4.6%.

At the mid-session close, China's commodity futures main contracts were mixed. Methanol fell more than 6%. Soda ash and 20# rubber dropped over 3%. Red dates, synthetic rubber, natural rubber, ethylene glycol (EG) and aluminum each declined over 2%.
