IMF Fiscal Affairs Director Rodrigo Baldes said on Wednesday the fund has raised the urgency for fiscal consolidation as climbing government debt, persistent inflation and higher financing costs are driving up sovereign yields and increasing debt‑servicing burdens. He said the IMF now stresses action is urgent and should begin immediately.
