AI model aggregation platform OpenRouter announced on October 14th (Beijing time) that Anthropic's new model, Opus 5.5, has become the model with the highest spending share on the platform, propelling Anthropic back to the lead in its competition with OpenAI. Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 also performed strongly in their initial launches. Data shows that in mid-September, OpenAI once accounted for more than half of the combined spending of the two companies, the first time in over two years, mainly driven by the new model GPT-6 Astra. Anthropic, on the other hand, consistently held approximately 75% to 80% of the spending between 2024 and 2025. The launch of Opus 5.5 in the week of September 21st reversed this trend: OpenRouter charts show that as of the week ending October 12th, Anthropic had regained approximately 66% of the combined spending of the two companies, with Opus 5.5 alone accounting for about 27%, and its token usage share also rebounding to approximately 47%. However, the Opus 5.5 is priced at twice that of the Sonnet 5.5, and the spending lead reflects the price difference to some extent.
