On Oct. 14 Taiwan authorities said they will invest up to $4.4 bln in a U.S. Alaska pipeline project. At a routine briefing the same day, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Taiwan’s external engagements must follow the One‑China principle and warned the DPP will not succeed in pursuing Taiwan independence under the guise of economic ties.
