Hyundai Motor announced on Tuesday plans to invest $15.5 billion in India between 2026 and 2032, positioning India as one of the group's core markets for growth and expansion in emerging markets. Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chairman Chung Eui-sun stated after meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, "India has always been one of Hyundai Motor Group's most important and strategically significant markets globally." Chung added that this investment plan reaffirms Hyundai Motor Group's commitment to the Indian market for the next 30 years and beyond. Under this seven-year investment plan, Hyundai Motor Group will focus on expanding manufacturing capacity, building R&D infrastructure, fostering local parts suppliers to improve parts localization, and driving future automotive technology innovation. To implement the investment, Hyundai Motor Group will also establish a dedicated investment entity in India. In recent years, driven by strong consumer demand, the Indian auto market has seen record-breaking sales. According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger car sales in India reached 439,000 units in August this year, a record high for a single month, representing a year-on-year increase of over 36%. Hyundai Motor is currently the third-largest automaker in India. Data shows that Hyundai sold 247,980 passenger vehicles in India from April to August this year. During the same period, Japanese automaker Maruti Suzuki topped the sales charts, while Indian domestic automaker Mahindra & Mahindra ranked second.
