Valterra Platinum Ltd is preparing a decision that could shift Mogalakwena, the
The world’s largest platinum mine in South Africa, from open-pit to underground
mining. Reserves are estimated to support more than 80 years of production, but
falling open-pit ore grades and rising extraction costs have driven plans for
the Sandsloot underground project. Valterra aims to start trial mining later
this year and reach a final investment decision in 2027.
