On the afternoon of the 15th the Financial Services Commission convened an
emergency market review in Seoul with the Financial Supervisory Service, Korea
Exchange and market experts to examine equity moves and foreign and
institutional fund flows. Participants cited rising global rate expectations,
uncertainty over AI semiconductor investment and profit prospects, and higher
oil prices as drivers of increased volatility but judged the pace of price
declines and funding flows indicate an overreaction. Regulators said they will
closely monitor domestic and international market moves and fund flows, enforce
a zero-tolerance policy against false rumors, market manipulation and illegal
short selling, and remain prepared to quickly activate contingency plans if
needed.
