TSMC said it is in talks with Elon Musk’s Terafab project on possible cooperation but stressed it must retain operational control of any chip fabs. Asked whether TSMC would join Musk’s chip manufacturing plan, CEO C.C. Wei said the company must run the wafer fabs, adding “fabs must be operated by TSMC.” Musk had earlier said TSMC could at most lease capacity and would not operate the plant. Both parties confirmed discussions but disclosed no terms.

UK GDP rose 0.1% in August, marking a third consecutive monthly increase and leaving GDP up 1.8% through the first eight months of the year, Deutsche Bank’s Sanjeev Raja said. He added the UK remains the fastest-growing G7 economy. Sector details show consumer-facing services output fell 0.3% for a second month, information & communications output dropped 0.5%, and construction contracted 0.2% for a fourth month. Employment is down about 95,000. Raja said sustained energy prices are squeezing household incomes and higher interest rates are weighing on consumption and investment, though overall the economy remains resilient.
