London-listed miner Anglo American CEO Duncan Wanblad said the company has held
talks with multiple technology firms exploring equity purchases to secure metal
supplies for AI data center construction and device manufacturing. Wanblad said
discussions are “indeed underway,” with tech firms weighing direct long-term
offtake contracts or equity stakes to secure future allocations. Metals cited
include copper, aluminum, steel and various rare earths; mining executives say
intensifying global resource competition is pushing tech companies to target
upstream sourcing to strengthen supply-chain resilience.
