Meta Platforms (META.O) has released Muse Spark Open, an open-weight AI model
targeted at coding and AI agent tasks, but said it has not open-sourced its most
capable models. Chief AI officer Alexandr Wang said Muse Spark Open is not the
company’s strongest model; Muse Wonder, rolled out earlier this week, remains
closed-source. Meta acknowledged Chinese open-weight models still outperform
Muse Spark Open on software development and some other tasks. Meta and Apple
(AAPL.O) are enabling developers to run Muse Spark Open locally across multiple
high-end Macs; Apple has updated its MLX SDK to support the model on Mac
devices.
