On the 16th, CGN's Hubei Tuanfeng Weijiachong pumped-storage power station — the
first small-to-medium pumped-storage project to enter operation during China's
15th Five-Year Plan — had its first unit begin commercial service. The station,
in Tuanfeng county, Huanggang, Hubei, has total installed capacity of 298 MW,
Comprising two 149 MW reversible pump-turbine generator units. The facility,
with upper and lower reservoirs and a water conveyance-generation system, will
pump at grid off-peak and generate at peak, adding short-term grid flexibility
and energy-storage capacity.
