China State Railway Group will adjust nationwide train numbers in two batches in
late November and late December, adding a new X prefix for Fuxing EMUs with
maximum operating speeds above 350 km/h. The X prefix (read “Xin”) will cover
X1–X9998. The change will be implemented alongside a revised Train Numbering
Regulations, increasing EMU passenger-train letter prefixes from four to seven
and raising available train-number capacity by nearly 40%. Operating sections
and published timetables will remain governed by the current operating diagram.
