Syria's state oil company said on the 15th (local time) a gas pipeline in
northeast Syria was attacked and exploded and caught fire, the fourth such
incident in weeks. The company said the Jbeisa gas export pipeline in al-Hasakah
province's al-Arabidi area exploded at 17:15 local time; the blast occurred
about 60 km from Shaddadi. The statement gave no cause. Technicians closed
valves at the Jbeisa gas treatment plant and at the Deir ez-Zor gas facility to
isolate the damaged section; fire and security teams were dispatched. The extent
of damage and any impact on gas supplies remain unclear.
