HKEX published a consultation summary on shortening the Hong Kong cash equity
settlement cycle, saying the market broadly supports adopting T+1. After
reviewing 109 non-duplicate responses from brokers, custodians, asset managers,
industry associations, tech vendors and investors, HKEX said it aims to complete
the transition in H2 2028, subject to market readiness and regulatory approval.
Respondents said T+1 would boost market efficiency, reduce settlement risk,
improve capital efficiency and shore up Hong Kong’s competitiveness as an
international financial centre.
