Iranian navy said on the 16th local time that its surveillance unit detected and
confirmed several hours earlier a tanker on fire in a prohibited zone east of
the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel had switched off its AIS and attempted to cross
a Gulf of Oman restricted area; the navy said unauthorized navigation in the
zone threatens safety.
