Statistics Canada will release September CPI at 08:30 Ottawa time Monday,
followed by the Bank of Canada’s latest Business and Consumer Outlook Survey.
Those are the final major data points ahead of the BoC’s Oct. 28 policy decision
and could shape how policymakers weigh oil-driven inflation risk and rising
trade tensions. The BoC has held its policy rate at 2.25% for seven consecutive
meetings but has warned that prolonged high gasoline prices raise the risk of
broader price-setting. Dovish strategists point to September’s weaker jobs
print—job losses and a higher unemployment rate—but if Monday’s releases show
persistent price pressure and a stabilizing economy, the soft labor data may
not be enough to rule out a rate hike.
