Romania said on Saturday evening it shot down two drones in its territory
waters after radar detected airspace violations; two Romanian Air Force F-16s
intercepted and downed the unmanned aircraft minutes apart, the Romanian Defense
Ministry said. The drones were jet-powered Geran-class attack UAVs, a model
Russia has used in the Ukraine conflict. Romania and Bulgaria have reported a
series of drone attacks on merchant ships along their Black Sea coasts that sank
vessels and caused fatalities; both countries have blamed Russia and asked NATO
for additional air-defence and counter-UAS equipment.
