People's Daily reports large-denomination certificates of deposit (minimum
200,000 yuan) — principal-and-interest guaranteed, typically paying slightly
above comparable-term regular deposit rates and eligible for transfer or early
Withdrawal under rules — are being relaunched after issuance had contracted.
Deposit holders are focused on offered rates, allocation limits and sales
channels. Multiple banks have restarted these products; analysts cite a mix of
factors including the low-rate, low-risk-appetite market environment, bank
funding considerations and interest-rate liberalization. With volatility in
wealth management products, funds and equities and abundant idle household
liquidity, demand for capital-preserving, high-certainty products has risen,
creating renewed market demand for large-denomination CDs, Qingdao Bank chief
economist Liu Xiaoshu said.
