Elon Musk has stated his plan to donate one share of SpaceX stock to every child in the United States next year. If Musk chooses to donate SpaceX stock to children through the "Trump Accounts" created by the U.S. government, the potential scale could be enormous. On October 1st, the U.S. Treasury Department announced the automatic opening of Trump Accounts for over 60 million eligible children. The White House further stated on October 7th that, including previously opened accounts, the total number is approaching 70 million. SpaceX closed at $146.03 last Friday; based on 70 million children, the total value of the donated stock would reach $10.2 billion. Musk's plan has precedent. In July, SpaceX President and Chief Operating Officer Gwen Shotwell announced that she and her husband would donate approximately 2 million SpaceX shares, giving one share to each of over 2 million American children's Trump Accounts, a total value of approximately $320 million based on the then-current share price.
