Iranian Revolutionary Guard spokesman Saldar Mohbi stated that Gulf states have realized that US bases offer no security benefit and even jeopardize it. Mohbi said he believes these countries will eventually accept this reality. The Mecca Agreement (between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan) demonstrates that they understand agreements with external powers are unhelpful and have therefore turned to regional agreements. “Iran has always hoped to establish friendly relations with these countries. We have many things in common and share a common destiny. Regional countries must ensure their own security, and we are prepared to sign joint agreements with them to guarantee security in a regional and localized manner.”
