Italy will deploy 500 troops to Milan to restore order after weekend
demonstrations turned into riots, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said on
the 19th. Media reported the government plans a cabinet meeting on the 20th to
consider and approve a package of security measures including the deployment.
Fearing renewed disorder, central Milan shops closed early on the 19th; police
patrolled the luxury Montenapoleone district, many stores removed window
displays and tourist footfall was limited.
