Kashkavi, spokesman for the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign
Policy Committee, said the nuclear issue is not part of current diplomatic
activities or negotiations and that reports alleging nuclear talks with Western
or regional parties are false. He said Iran’s position on the regional situation
and on reopening the Strait of Hormuz depends on whether the US accepts and
implements Iran’s previously announced seven conditions. Diplomatic work has
moved beyond initial consultations, he added, and final decisions rest with the
other side. Kashkavi said the visit by Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir and other
senior Pakistani military and security officials was hosted by Iran’s interior
ministry, is bilateral and focused on border cooperation and neighborly
exchanges, and is not related to mediation or new initiatives on the Strait of
Hormuz conflict.
