On Oct. 20 the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s Equipment Industry Division I published a draft Installation Requirements for External Lighting and Optical Signal Devices of Motor Vehicles and Trailers (for comment). It bars vehicles without Level‑3 or higher automated driving systems from installing ADS indicator lights. The draft mandates ADS lights use a blue‑green color (previous L2 assist lights were commonly blue). When a Level‑3 or higher automated driving function is activated, all ADS lights must automatically illuminate and remain lit while the system is active; ADS lights are prohibited from illuminating at Level‑2 or below and must automatically extinguish when the automated driving system disengages. Manual on/off control of ADS lights is prohibited.
