Axios reports White House special envoy Witkoff will meet President Putin in St.
Petersburg on Wednesday to deliver an updated plan to end the war in Ukraine.
The White House says it hopes that if Trump agrees to lift sanctions on Russian
diesel sales and takes other measures welcomed by Moscow, Putin may be more
willing to compromise. Before traveling, Witkoff held talks in Oslo with
Ukrainian President Zelenskiy and consulted with leaders of Norway and Finland
and representatives from France, the UK, Germany, Poland, the EU and NATO. A US
official said the plan aims to create a viable path for direct three-party talks
and broader multilateral negotiations.
