Phil Hogan, a candidate to lead the UN food agency and former EU agriculture and
trade commissioner, said he would seek engagement with U.S. President Trump and
other world leaders to help restart the Black Sea grain export corridor as part
of a drive to place food security at the center of geopolitics. He cited a
recent rise in Russian attacks on Black Sea port vessels that have blocked
Ukrainian exports. Under the Black Sea Grain Initiative the corridor enabled
about 32 mln tons of grain and food exports in 2022-23.
