ECB chief economist LANE said broader international use of the euro could help
the ECB meets its inflation target by strengthening the currency area’s
international monetary-policy influence and thereby affecting foreign and
domestic demand to support price stability. He added that greater euro invoicing
would make euro-area import prices less sensitive to external shocks; ECB
officials have pushed expanding the euro’s global role to boost Europe
autonomy amid waning US support, promote trade and lower borrowing costs.
