An Iranian senior security official told Fars News Tehran assesses the U.S. and
Israel could strike at any time and no longer trusts U.S. diplomatic signals;
U.S. Secretary of State Rubio's remarks in Athens reinforced that view. The
official said Iran now regards itself as effectively at war with the U.S.,
treating economic measures, naval blockades and airspace restrictions as
continuations of military aggression, and domestic pressure is rising to break
the blockades. Iran has ordered combat units that, if a new large-scale war
erupts — including assassinations of Iranian officials or civilian deaths — it
will treat U.S. political targets, belligerents and their infrastructure as
legitimate strike targets.
