Malaysia has approved the first export of unprocessed rare earths under a new
conditional framework that relaxes a 2024 export ban. The Minerals and
Geoscience Department granted the shipment approval for R&D purposes, the
Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability said, without
disclosing the exporter or volumes. Guidelines issued earlier this month permit
exports of unprocessed rare earths for testing or processing if specific
conditions are met and aim to encourage investment in rare-earth capacity
Malaysia.
