Prime Minister Carney will meet President Erdogan in Turkey on Thursday in the
first bilateral visit by a Canadian leader. The two are expected to sign a
declaration to deepen cooperation across four areas, including defense and
energy. As a NATO member, Turkey is seeking investment to advance its defense
industry, new nuclear power projects and mining. Carney’s office says the visit
aims to position Canada as a key trade and investment partner and to lessen
Canada’s dependence on the US.
