The World Meteorological Organization on the 21st released its Global Seasonal Climate Update, saying the current El Niño could reach an unprecedented intensity. It forecasts tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures may be about 3.8°C above average in Nov 2026–Jan 2027. WMO secretary-general Shao Luo said that projection is outside the range of charts monitored over the past 40 years. El Niño is expected to peak late this year, though impacts could persist beyond the peak.
