China's National Energy Administration in Beijing launched a new round of safety and quality improvement actions for the nuclear power sector, instructing units to consolidate prior gains and raise safety-quality management to support high-quality nuclear development. Directives prioritize upstream/source governance, accelerated design standardization, wider adoption of modular construction and deployment of smart construction sites to upgrade nuclear engineering quality management. The NEA singled out commissioning and operational safety of new reactor types, reliability of nuclear fuel assemblies and strengthening of nuclear power operational technical service systems as key focus areas to ensure unit safety. Non-nuclear safety risks are to be jointly assessed and controlled with nuclear safety risks. The agency ordered stronger interdepartmental communication and coordination on the basis of existing mechanisms, and tighter supervision, performance assessment and follow-up enforcement.
