The UK will invest about £600m (about $800m) in AI safety targeting biological,
health and cyber threats, the government said. Planned allocations include £100m
to build an AI biosecurity laboratory, £65m for pathogen-response R&D, £120m for
the existing AI Safety Institute, £130m to strengthen cyber defenses for
critical infrastructure and the wider economy, and £60m to support AI-driven
robotics, automation and manufacturing firms, alongside funding for AI research,
chip design, medical policy innovation and local AI projects. OpenAI and
Anthropic will provide up to £200m of model-use credits, and Google DeepMind and
other firms will also contribute support.
