Reserve Bank of Australia assistant governor Hunter said the bank’s
rate-tightening campaign to fight inf “is not over,” signaling a high
probability of another hike at the Nov. 3 policy meeting. Hunter noted the board
has implemented four hikes this year and, when asked if enough had been done to
curb inf, replied “unfortunately, not yet.” Her comments follow deputy governor
hauser’s warning earlier this week that the current inf outlook has
“deteriorated markedly” since the RBA’s August assessment. The bank lifted the
cash rate to 4.6% in late September, a 15-year high, and markets have increased
odds of a further Nov. 3 rise.
