China Earthquake Administration field team on Oct. 25 located the surface
rupture zone from the M7.0 Baqing, Tibet earthquake about 15 km east of the
epicenter and ~20 km from Maru Township. The rupture is dominated by normal
faulting with a left-lateral strike-slip component; the rupture plane is
near-vertical, maximum rupture depth ~3.5 m, horizontal slip ~0.9 m. Rupture
zone width measures about 8–30 m and extends north and south onto snow-covered
mountains. Multiple sites of sand/liquefaction and ground fissures were
observed, indicating a broad area of seismic geological damage.
