Reuters sources say no agreement has been reached to buy chipmaking equipment
from ASML, making Vietnam’s first semiconductor fab unlikely to begin trial
production in 2027. The planned site on Hanoi’s outskirts remains overgrown;
Planet Labs imagery in January and Airbus imagery in October show no buildings.
A person familiar with the project said the 2027 target is probably unattainable
due to developer Viettel’s lack of fab-construction experience and
administrative hurdles to quickly secure government funding.
